In my previous post I mentioned that oxidative stress, toxins, a poor diet, health issues etc can speed up the process of telomere shortening .
What is oxidative stress?
I quote from Wikipedia:
Oxidative stress reflects an imbalance between the systemic manifestation of reactive oxygen species and a biological system’s ability to readily detoxify the reactive intermediates or to repair the resulting damage.
What are the causes of oxidative stress?
…is the imbalance between free radicals and antioxidants in your body. Free radicals are oxygen-containing molecules that have an uneven number of electrons which allows them to easily react with other molecules. This can cause damage to all parts of a cell, including proteins, lipids, and DNA.
